Born in 1965 in Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, Yogendra Tripathi is a contemporary Indian painter whose practice is deeply informed by the natural landscape and cultural environment of his hometown. He completed his MFA in Painting from the Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, where he developed a distinctive visual language rooted in observation, memory, and abstraction.
Tripathi's paintings are characterised by layered compositions that evoke the rhythms of nature through subtle forms, textures, and tonal variations. Rather than depicting the landscape directly, his works distil its essence into atmospheric, contemplative compositions that encourage quiet reflection. His practice reflects an ongoing exploration of space, materiality, and the emotional resonance of the natural world.
Over the course of his career, Tripathi has held numerous solo exhibitions across India and has participated in significant group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His contributions to contemporary Indian art have been recognised through several prestigious honours, including the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 2002, the Raza Foundation Award in 2005, and an award at the 7th Bharat Bhavan Biennial of Contemporary Art in 2017.
