    Tom Vattakuzhy

Tom Vattakuzhy, born in Muvattupuzha in 1967, is a figurative painter, printmaker, and illustrator residing and working in his hometown in Kerala. Demonstrating artistic talent from a young age, Vattakuzhy's work challenges the relevance of painting in the digital age, questioning our relationship with visuality. His philosophical insights and astute observations on human existence deconstruct the fabric of reality, challenging our comfort with images, objects, spirituality, and home.

Vattakuzhy gained nationwide acclaim for his history painting, "Death of Gandhi," which became the cover art for the Kerala budget in 2020. Academically, he pursued a diploma course at a local art school and later joined Kalabhawan, Santiniketan in 1991, graduating in printmaking in 1996. He completed his master's degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University of Baroda, in 1998.

Throughout his career, Vattakuzhy has received accolades such as the AIFACS Award in New Delhi in 1997 and 1998, Lalita Kala Academy Award in Kerala in 1997, National Scholarship from HRD, New Delhi in 1996, and the Haren Das Award from the Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta in 1995. His work continues to explore the complexities of human existence, pushing artistic boundaries and challenging conventional perspectives.
