Robert Louis Banks

Robert Banks was an accomplished architect and artist who pursued a formal education at the Architectural Association from 1928 to 1933. His career was interrupted by military service during the Second World War, where he earned the prestigious Military Cross. After the war, Banks transitioned into town planning, a profession he continued through the 1950s. However, he eventually shifted his focus to painting, dedicating his later years to this artistic pursuit.

Banks became a fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, signifying his continued involvement in the architectural community. He exhibited his artwork at notable London galleries, including the Trafford Gallery and the Alwin Gallery. His artistic output was heavily inspired by his extensive travels. He painted views of various iconic cities and regions, particularly in Italy—capturing the beauty of Rome, Venice, Lecce, Naples, and Urbino. Banks also explored Greece and Japan, incorporating the cultural and natural landscapes of these countries into his work.
