Remen Chopra

Remen Chopra W. Van Der Vaart is a multidisciplinary artist popular for her signature style of creating montages of sketches, photography as well as video to create a sense of complexity. They encompass her metaphysical and cosmological understanding of time. Born 1980 in New Delhi, Remen graduated from the College of Art, New Delhi. She also studied Art History and Language briefly in Siena through an Italian Cultural Exchange Program. Also, she has attended the School Of Visual Art in New York.

Remen’s work can be defined as a tango between reality and fantasy. She draws inspiration from both her past experiences as well as from media and the cinematic world. The root of her works creates a nostalgic moment for the artist herself, having layers of history that are more often recovered from her memory, giving a sense and emotion of home.

The dramatic elements of Chopra's work are almost theatrical. She embodies anecdotes into different objects as a mode of artistic transmission. Her work has a message of hope, and of a new world of empathy and harmony. A feminine figure is also a common recurrence, representing life and growth. Her inspirations from theatre make her art-motifs turn into performers narrating experiential tales.

Remen Chopra has exhibited in India as well as internationally. Some notable shows include, “Feel”, “Memoirs of Tanaz and Vimala” and “Walking on the Planet”. Her solo and group exhibitions have been held in multiple Indian cities like Kolkata and Bombay, as well as internationally in places like Amsterdam, among reputed others.
