Nedia Were, a self-taught contemporary visual artist based in Nairobi, Kenya, developed his passion for art during childhood, drawing inspiration from cartoons, comic books, and newspapers. His artistic journey evolved as he worked as a Sign writer, refining his unique style. Influenced by his grandfather's love for newspapers, Nedia found a deep connection with societal issues reported in the news, inspiring him to contribute to social and environmental dialogue through art. His "Mumwamu" series, debuted at Mitochondria Gallery in 2021, garnered significant attention, marking a turning point in his career. Nedia, recognized as the second most followed emerging artist on Artsy in 2022, is set to make his debut at the XIV Florence Biennale in October 2023. His works, addressing societal shortcomings, are part of collections worldwide, including the New Museum in Berlin.
