    Mosè di Giosuè Bianch

    Popularized by his printmaking and painting, Mosè di Giosuè Bianch was an Italian artist born in Monza. He trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera under Giuseppe Bertini after his family moved to Milan. His versatility extended to painting, water colouring, engraving, historical depictions, portraits, genre scenes, still-life scenes, landscapes as well as church interiors.

    Bianch was a master at his craft, popular for the lightness of his touch and fluidity of handling academic subjects and altarpieces. He was able to visit Venice and Paris at the expense of a reputed grant awarded to him. Travelling places, his oeuvre presents a palpable influence from his varied sojourns, which eventually became his concrete style.

    Bianch worked on commission and earned a reputation for himself during his time in Venice. Later, he met Goupil in Paris who was responsible for his fame outside of Italy. His most significant project was the fresco decoration of the Villa Giovanelli at Lonigo. After employment by Giovanelli, known for being a collector and connoisseur, Bianch earned a name for himself and fetched more fresco commissions. His passion for Navigli and the suburbs of the city is evident in his works. Some of his last works were etchings.

    Sometimes Bianch’s oeuvre can be considered a little uncoordinated but the usage of intensified bold colours has an admirable nonchalance. He was also nominated as the councillor of the Academy of Brera and a recipient of the Prize Principe Umberto. He received critical acclaim for his works like Laguna in burrasca a Chioggia, among others. In his later years, he served as the principal of the Accademia di Belle Arti Cignaroli in Verona. Bianch’s work was exhibited in multiple countries. Mosè di Giosuè Bianch lived and worked in Italy, France till his demise.
