Manzi Léon is a Rwandan self-taught visual and digital artist. He feels alive when creating: applying paint to a canvas has become his ultimate escape and gives him the confidence to voice what he feels is right as he deals with everyday challenges. Through his impasto/painterly style, brush strokes converge on a canvas to form a masterpiece.
His paintings and digital artworks reflect his upbringing, in which he spent most of his childhood with his mother, seeing her sacrifice for the well-being of the family. This first love experience has shaped the way Manzi sees the struggles and contributions of women to every household; his work is imbued with the admiration and respect he holds for his mother and with his appreciation for black women worldwide.
Manzi Léon is emerging as an iconic contemporary African creative, with recent exhibitions in Rwanda, Germany, and the USA. His works have been acquired privately and publicly, from noteworthy collectors and organizations, including Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo, Artlife Matters, and collectors from South Africa, the United States, Rwanda, Ghana, and more.
