M Suryamoorthy Perumal

M. Suriyamoorthy is a distinguished artist known for creating his own pigments using ingredients like medicinal plants, seashells, and natural gums, combined with waters from India's holy rivers and temples. His colours, perfected over years, ensure lasting brightness for over half a century. Suriyamoorthy’s work spans mediums such as acrylic, oil, pastel, and ink, and he uniquely avoids following any old masters or art movements.

A graduate of the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Chennai, he was a State Lalit Kala Akademi scholar, a National Scholar at MS University, Baroda, and received a Senior Fellowship from the Department of Culture, Government of India. He has won over forty-seven prestigious awards and his art has been exhibited internationally. His works are featured in various museums, fine arts academies, and the archaeological department of Tamil Nadu, reflecting his genuine and profound artistic approach.
