    Lyra Abueg Garcellano

    Lyra Garcellano, born in 1972, is a versatile artist engaging in installation works and paintings, focusing on the politics of identity with themes of displacement, movement, history, and memory. Holding degrees in Fine Arts (Major in Painting) from the University of the Philippines and in Interdisciplinary Studies from Ateneo de Manila University, she is currently pursuing Art Theory in the University of the Philippines’ Department of Art Studies. Notably, she is the creator of the comic strip Atomo and Weboy, featured in the Philippine Daily Inquirer from early 2000 to 2009. Recognized for her contributions, Garcellano received the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Thirteen Artists Awards in 2006 and was shortlisted in the Ateneo Art Awards for 2008. Her artistic journey includes notable residencies, such as the Asian Cultural Council grant to Location One in New York City (2010) and the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists in Yogyakarta (2002), showcasing her commitment to exploring diverse cultural landscapes.
