Lucas Verkoren

 Lucas Verkoren (1888, Leiden – 1955, Schoorl) was a Dutch painter known for his realistic landscapes. He began painting in 1928, balancing this passion with his career as an industrialist. Verkoren often painted outdoors with Leiden impressionist A.J. van Driesten and occasionally with Chris van der Windt. In the late 1930s, influenced by the Nieuwe Zakelijkheid (New Objectivity) movement, Verkoren developed a distinctive realist style. His contributions significantly impacted Leiden's artistic community, making him a driving force in the local art scene. His work's importance was recognized in 1948 when Museum De Lakenhal dedicated a retrospective to his art. Verkoren's paintings reflect his deep appreciation for the Dutch landscape, showcasing his skill in capturing the essence of his surroundings.
