    Lola Sandoval

Lola Sandoval is a nationally recognized artist born 1964 in Navarra, Spain. She completed her training at the St. Jordi Fine Art University of Barcelona. Incorporating an essence of individuality, Sandoval experiments in decorative painting, poster design as well as the French art style of préciosité.

Set against a black background, her works display a sense of sobriety layered with the portrayal of disturbing figures. Blurring the forms, she recomposes a specific set of forms in social groups. Chaotic and engulfing, Sandoval has created a unique style for herself which is often categorized by a dark palette, creating atmospheres of impending doom. Serious moods in a fictional world are observed with Sandoval’s subjects staring point black at the audience. Employing oil and acrylics, the persisting motifs represent frustration, anger and tension.

The roles of the characters are reversed in Sandoval’s artworks. With the rising confusion, a sense of peculiarity emerges. The purpose is ambiguous in her oeuvre, with generations that are confused and memory value disappears. With the strange nature of these scenes, a bizarre setting appears to germinate, which is deprived of space, time or even cultural references. The dark atmosphere feels like a prison hard to escape from, as the scene appears to freeze. Her work strives to achieve a sense of individuality, as she believes no matter where we are, that’s the only constant we have.

Sandoval is a prize-winning artist whose works have been exhibited in solo and ground shows. Her artworks display the individuality of people as they stare into the air with blank expressions. Interestingly, the backdrop is deepened by a low key palette, emphasising the individual and their stark eyes!
