    K. Laxma Goud

Born in Nizampur, Andhra Pradesh, in 1940, K. Laxma Goud is a celebrated Indian artist known for his bold and sensuous visual language. After earning a diploma in painting and drawing from the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad, he pursued a post-diploma in mural painting and printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda. This exposure to Baroda’s creative environment deepened his appreciation of rural life and inspired him to reinterpret it through an urban, contemporary lens.

By the late 1960s, Goud developed a distinctive style that celebrated raw sexuality and rustic vitality, blending human, animal, and vegetal forms with expressive lines and earthy tones. His works often evoke memories of rural Andhra, combining innocence with primal energy.

A versatile draughtsman, he has worked across watercolour, gouache, dry pastels, terracotta, and metal. Goud has exhibited extensively in India and internationally, with works in major collections including The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C., and Glenbarra Art Museum, Japan.
