Iskandar Fauzy

Indonesian artist Iskandar Fauzy is a modern-day acrylic painter, inspired by the works of Picasso and Braque. Fauzy aims to achieve a sense of understanding of his own environment. Having a background in interior design, Fauzy manages to create his work digitally before imprinting it on a canvas. Bold to switch careers, Fauzy left his profession in interior design to work towards his passion for fine art.

Fauzy's work shows a representation of cultural icons, high-profile politicians and people from the art world, concocting a sense of visual provocation. Referencing cross-cultural scenarios, his painting Come As You Are represents Kurt Cobain sharing a cigarette with Indonesia's first president, Sukarno. Similarly, one of his works, Fake Ideology is a painting of Heath Ledger as the Joker from The Dark Knight, who acted as a pop icon and redefined the popular character to the entire millennium. Fauzy is heavily inspired by the history and development of his home country, which reflects in his work.

A general theme common in Fauzy's work is the reconstruction of his previous ideas where he recycles an idea to increase the clarity of the subject matter. However, Fauzy manages to change the visuals at the same time, leaving the viewers to wonder about the context in which the painting was made. Strongly and vehemently, he believes that all of his "completed" artworks are only finished after they are titled and named.

Fauzy has had an extensive number of exhibitions in his home country, Indonesia, at the National Gallery of Indonesia in Jakarta as well as the Jogja National Museum in Yogyakarta. Also, he has also had international success with exhibits in Singapore and Hong Kong.
