    Heiner Meyer

One of Germany's most important contemporary pop artists, Heiner Meyer is known for his representation of the luxury culture in his paintings alongside the painting of iconic popular movie stars and comic characters and cartoon figures. Born 1953 in Bielefeld, Germany, Meyer developed an early interest in painting and began his ventures in art while he was still a child. Prof. Malte Sartorius of the Braunschweig University of Art titled Meyer as his master student while he was studying Free Art at the university. Also, where he also ended up being a teacher himself.

Meyer's early work consisted of sculptures that were heavily inspired by Greek mythology including popular characters like Aphrodite, Hera and Athena among many others. Later, Meyer found his style in pictorial representations of pop figures and luxury symbols in an almost satirical way. He also continued to shift away from classical Greek figures, thereby introducing pop art not only to his painting but also his sculptures in which the subject was usually torn away from its context and cast into bronze and sometimes even oversized.

His vibrant colour palette satisfies his humour, as he proceeds to build a juxtaposition between popular actresses alongside cartoon figures. His work in painting luxury culture opens a door to a surreal fantasy for a common viewer, giving space to dream and to wonder about fame and wealth.

Heiner Meyer was able to have his solo exhibition at Galerie Bernhard Hüning in Münster at a very young age of 19. Salvador Dalí also hired Meyer to be his assistant. Meyer won many notable awards in his career, including the Rudolf-Wilke Prize and the Art Prize of Lottogesellschaft Niedersachsen. He has had his work displayed in various public and private collections. Catering to an international audience, Meyer's work has made it to Bologna, Paris, Miami Beach, Chicago and Seoul.

Meyer lives and works in Bielefeld, Germany.
