    Hans Meertens

Born 1975, Hans Meerterns, the Dutch artist, practices diverse paraphernalia of imagery. They range from black and white contour-oriented forms to a range of experiential visuals that are not bound to a conventional method. It is intriguing to note an impeccable dexterity in denoting the female figures that are apparently spying agents, among other duties that a woman possesses in the social world. In his portrayal, appreciatively, the women are liberated, assertive and tenacious!

Meertens belongs to a nation, the Netherlands, which possesses a lineage of the most popular artists like Rembrandt,  Vincent Van Gogh, William de Kooning, etc that span within more than four centuries. At the same time, the location has been a witness to the constantly altering styles of expressions, which comprise Renaissance to impressionism to abstract expressionism. His works carry a repetitive set of pictorial of women with their faces covered in a minute and intricate formations or networks that articulate their profession during wartime. Technically, it is his attempt to render the gruesome experiences that female spies have had to undergo!

Although his earlier works possess a post-impressionist method of employing colours, the gradual procedure of leaving them highlights his expertise in contours. Meertens has received art training from several reputed institutes, which include the Royal Academy of Art, Ghent and Utrecht School of the Art, among others.

Meertens has conducted many group shows while undertaking several commission projects.  Also showing his works solo at reputed galleries, a few recent names consist of Gallery Clifford, Daugård, DK, Urban Art Gallery, New York, USA, and many more, He has participated in numerous art fairs and biennale, levelling his name to a league of upcoming international artists.
