Hanie Soltani is an Iranian figurative painter based in Tehran whose work explores themes of identity, memory, and the complexities of the human experience. Rooted in personal narratives yet resonating with broader cultural concerns, her paintings examine the intersections of contemporary Iranian society and universal questions of belonging, resilience, and selfhood.
Drawing from the rich visual heritage of Persian painting while engaging with the history of Western art, Soltani has developed a distinctive contemporary language. Her compositions often occupy a space between reality and imagination, where fragmented figures, layered environments, and symbolic imagery create emotionally charged narratives. Rich colour palettes, intricate patterns, and textured surfaces lend her works a sense of depth, while recurring female figures become powerful expressions of both vulnerability and strength within changing social and cultural landscapes.
Soltani received her MFA in Painting from the University of Tehran and has exhibited widely in Iran and internationally. Her work has been recognised by the Royal Society of Oil Painters at the Mall Galleries, London, and Gallery Ramfjord, Oslo. In 2024, her work was selected for the prestigious Portrait Award Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London, reflecting the growing international recognition of her practice.
