Gilbert Young

Gilbert Young (b. 1941) is a prominent American artist from Cincinnati, widely recognized for his visual narratives centered on the African American experience. Young’s work combines emotional resonance with cultural significance. His art has reached broad audiences, appearing in national advertising campaigns for BellSouth and on television, including A Different World, where his imagery was worn by cast members.

A passionate advocate for Black representation in the arts. Beyond canvas and prints, he has also made a lasting mark on public space—most notably with Atlanta’s longest mural, completed in 2019, stretching an impressive 700 feet.
