Gabriele Sermuksnyte, a Lithuanian artist, artworks present the delicate imagery of modern consumerist culture. And the characters portrayed often, through materiality, seem to be looking for pleasure, gratification, and happiness. Although symbolic in nature, the characters appear to be suspended in a state of stultified timelessness. Brimming with mixed emotions, the myriad motifs narrate several experiential and observational accounts of socio-cultural living.
Born 1990 in Lithuania, Gabriele completed her Master in Painting from the Vilnius Academy of Art. In 2016, she became a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association. The repository of large canvases, Baroque-influenced hues, historical quotes, biodiverse objects, among a large range of objects in her work describe her persistent style of expression. Do these represent common context? Or are they constantly changing? Over-saturated and glossy, surrealistic and naturalistic, the depiction of forms is replete with matters that may be unfathomable yet serene!
Gabriele is a youngest generation figurative painter with a characteristic signature style. Her artworks present a strong critique of the all-pervasive modern consumer and trendy culture. Fancy objects, quirky characters, plastic mannequins and composite figures compulsively feature her works. Creating a hyper-real world bursting with luxurious stance, the nature of forms brink on caricaturish style. The fairytale-like luxurious exterior betrays a disturbing interior that prevails in the artist’s psyche.
Gabriele’s artworks are narrative, crisp and suggestive of several interstitial emotions. The viewer is drawn into this dreamlike, fictional world, free to interpret the characters and motifs of her universe. Nevertheless, they demand the utmost attention to detail, while decoding each layer!
Gabriele has presented several solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Lithuania, India, The Netherlands, Georgia, Poland.
