Christopher Florentino, also known as Flore is a Brooklyn-based contemporary art practitioner. An artist with a contemporaneous attitude, he was successful in fetching a solo show in Los Angeles in 2018. In order to develop a compelling experience, he invited art collectors through a creative journey into his head space. Highly influenced by the works of Jean Michel Basquiat nd George Condo, Flore’s works use imageries from the modern world with texts that are expressionistic and energizing. Born in 1983, He does not limit to conventional pedagogical methods. Rather, pushes beyond the boundaries of existing ideologies and methods.
Flore’s interest in art begin during childhood when his brother introduced him to graffiti and street art. His works show a palpable lineage to the same. Especially, Flore has a special inspirational leaning towards the works of Keith Harring. Harring's work speaks through fluorescent colours and contour-based abstract forms. Similarly, the palette and formal representation in Flore's works also denote multiple interpretations–open to the viewer to decide the direction or the path of representations. Consequently, the presentation is rich in nuanced images and text commentary on the pseudo-culture of America, while embedding the interiors and exteriors of the urban spaces.
Are these abstract form semiological dentations of larger concepts in construction? Do these bright colours a sign of refurbishing our ideologies? Flore’s residence in urban life has been augmented through several experiences which have eventually been incorporated into his works. He defines his practice through a term called urban cubism.
