Fidia Falaschetti is an Italian artist known for his playful, thought-provoking, and satirical works that explore the notions of commercialism, globalization, pop culture, and consumerism. He is best known for his sculptures and multimedia pieces that incorporate elements of contemporary technological, consumer, and pop culture products to satirize the same and question the larger ideological underpinnings of their production practices.
Falaschetti was born in Italy in 1977 to a creative family. He was exposed to different subcultures, was drawn to street art and the hip-hop world from childhood. By the time he turned 16, Falaschettii had begun fetching commercial projects of murals and illustrations. Subsequently, he studied Production Design at the Academy of Art (Accademia di Belle Arti) in Florence. Following his degree, Falaschetti embarked on a professional career as a photographer, graphic designer, illustrator, and art director.
However, by the time he turned 30, Falaschetti felt an urgent need to interrogate and critique the superficiality and banality of prevalent professional hypocrisy. Fidia Falaschetti’s sculptures and installations move way beyond the politics of whine. Fundamentally, it represents his breaking point from his past pre-occupation. Hence, his practice ultimately presupposes itself as hyper-creative manifestations of the pop culture and consumerist world. Eventually, the results are quirky, eccentric, funky, and rather delightful craft that is as pleasing yet interrogative. Moreover, they remind us of Jeff Koons’s bulbous sculptures!
Fidia Falaschetti has widely exhibited in galleries and museums in Italy, France, the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Switzerland, the U.K. and India. He has also worked as an Art and Communications teacher in the past.
Fidia also spends a considerable amount of time travelling to places outside Italy. His artistic practice is well informed by the myriad experiences due to his regular travels.
Fidia Falaschetti lives and works in Los Angeles, US.
