    F&G (Fratz & Gio)

F & G (Fratz & Gio) are an artist-duo, whose innovative artworks are a bold, spunky, and playful tribute to the world of pop culture. The famous icons of modern mass media and various products of the latest culture are reimagined and refurbished in Fratz & Gio’s free-standing sculptural installations and paintings.

Sharing an interesting story behind their collaboration, it meets at the junction of their mutual interest in cartoons and illustrations.  Fratz has been the illustrator of the famous Warner Bros’ characters of Tiny Toons. And, Gio developed a sheer fascination for the world of cartoons and illustrations from a very young age. His unique goal was to bring life to a character worthy of Walt Disney’s imagination and standards. Both Fratz and Gio have a solid background in fashion.

The two collaborated on designing a brand in the ’90s and created a famous little monkey called “Lc Waikiki”. They have been working together for over 25 years.

Fratz & Gio are well known for their avant-garde technique and for the offbeat content of their artworks. The exploitation of materials such as aluminium, plexiglas and neon lights form the base structure for many of their paintings and sculptures.

The duo has portrayed cult figures like Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Mickey Mouse and Whitney Houston in their unique, dramatic, and avant-garde fashion. In their portrayal of pop culture, Fratz & Gio often subvert the established norms and dominant aesthetics, playing around with viewers’ notions of art. They imaginatively re-interpret popular art icons and often place them in seemingly idiosyncratic and incongruous settings. This can be seen at work in their eccentric yet appealing mixed media painting Mona-Mickey featuring Monalisa and Mickey Mouse in the same frame.
