Emily Florence Mason

Emily Florence Mason, born on 30 August 1893 in Charlotte, Virginia, was an American portrait painter. Raised in a family where her father, Joseph Douglas Mason, and mother, Mollie S. Smith, nurtured her early years, Emily's artistic talents flourished. On 4 September 1917, she married William Jefferson Lough in Virginia, and they built their life together.

Emily's career as a portrait painter was shaped by her Southern upbringing and travels. She lived in various places, including Miami, Florida, and Arlington, Virginia, where she continued to pursue her passion for painting. Her work often reflected the people and places around her, capturing the essence of her subjects with a unique depth and sensitivity.

She passed away on 16 June 1975 in Nokesville, Virginia, at the age of 81. Emily Florence Mason was laid to rest at Oak Dale Baptist Church Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy as a skilled portrait artist who captured the spirit of her era.
