Born in 1984, Aurelie Quentin’s father is a noted painter and collector. Having inherently received the lineage of artistic creativity, Quentin’s representations are vibrant with a myriad of colourful forms floating over the surface. She began to indulge in art practice at a very early age. Later, she moved to Paris to train in architecture. However, she switched to art after an ecstatic experience of natural flavours and rhythm.
Quentin, inspired by Afro-punk, is a member of a multidisciplinary artist collective. She has an interest in several disciplines of fine arts like music, drawing and especially travel. Not only music has affected her sensibility of music but her sojourns have had a deep impact on the making of a repertoire of art forms. The representations of women in her painting are liberated, vivacious and optimistic. Her paintings have been described as a kaleidoscope of tropical hues. Staging figures on unconventional objects or platforms, they speak of the idea of breaking social norms and traditions. The human figures are nonchalant, and irreverent suggesting a state of carelessness and free-spirited nature. In addition, the colour palette and the technique is realistic while hoping to cross the threshold of masterly attributes.
Although they depict the black population, the works refer to multiple cultures due to exposure through consistent travel. She believes in completely immersing herself in the process. Her art career became established after her maiden exhibition in Paris. By meditating on the works of Quentin, there arises a desire to question the state of laziness and freedom in her presentations.
