Alhassane Konté dit Lass is an internationally renowned artist with an aura that is attractive yet speculative, demonstrating a sense of liveliness and gaiety. Born 1993 in Kodié, Mali, Alhassane Lass completed art training from the National Institute of Art followed by the Conservatory of Arts and Crafts Multimedia in Bamako. His work focuses on human sensations and feelings as a source of happiness.
Alhassane Lass believes in a world governed primarily by human emotion and values. He thinks that the current world with positivism in sciences can only lead to authoritarian, controlling bodies and dictatorships. On the same line, his compositions represent that nature is a source of infinite bliss. Quite a romantic idea to grasp, the colours and mottled texture have been recurring elements. His exhibits include paintings coated in layers of acrylic with a splash of wood powder or ash, materializing his composition.
Through the periodic appearances of children in his illustrations, Lass focuses on representing values that he expects for a utopian world. Symbolic in nature, flowers, animals, among other motifs of representation have also been repetitive, developing an impressive narrative. While flowers protect from dangers and bring harmony, animals also possess an equivalent responsibility of creating a universal model of the world that is far from the present perpetuating concerns. Sparsely composed, Lass’s palette comprises shades of blue, yellow with a hint of green and grey.
Alhassane Konté dit Lass was a winner of the Mali/European Union cooperation competition. He has had several group exhibitions at the National Museum of Mali. Alhassane Lass had his first solo exhibition in Paris during the African 2020/2021 season.
