Akingbade Mayowa

Oluwamayowa Akingbade Michael, born in 1988 in Lagos, Nigeria. He embarked on his artistic journey by pursuing a National Diploma in Art and Industrial Design from Lagos State Polytechnic in 2013. A young, brilliant, and prolific artist, Oluwamayowa is known for his versatility in experimenting with various artistic mediums.

Oluwamayowa Akingbade Michael has actively participated in a variety of competitions and exhibitions, earning accolades. His artistic journey has taken him through notable events like The Springs in 2014, The Eko Art Expo organized by the Lagos State Government in 2017, the Affordable Art Auction at Mydrim Gallery, Ado odo Art Expo in 2019, Miniature Art Fair organized by Ogrikan Gallery in 2019, Experience the 2nd, a group show organized by 9 artists at the Kokopelli Gallery in 2021, and A Better Time, a group show at Omaka Gallery in London. He has dedicated himself to the world of art as a full-time studio artist.

Oluwamayowa's art serves as a medium of self-expression, drawing inspiration from his life experiences and the happenings in his community. His works depict the ups and downs of life through distorted yet hopeful and colorful images, symbolizing the idea of being "Broken but not damaged." He also emphasizes the beauty, strength, and resilience of the black body and soul, engaging viewers' imagination by leaving certain elements of his distorted human figures open to interpretation. His chosen medium, acrylic, allows him to experiment freely and capture his current mood in his works. Oluwamayowa Akingbade uses his art as a means to express human excellence and the uniqueness of the black identity.
