    Ahn Sung Ha

Ahn Sung Ha’s photo-realistic paintings derive a pleasing comfort to gaze at the objects that are familiar to every individual. Born 1977 in Korea, Ahn Sung Ha has trained in painting from Honk-ik University with a masters degree. Her fundamental and lifelike paintings of glass container projects refracted-view of objects like fruits, cigarettes, and candies within.

It is interesting to note that Ahn Sun Ha’s representations have a recurring theme with differing glass containers. At the same time, the refraction and the play of light also vary considerably, providing a viewer with a palpable freshness towards her monotonous imagery. However, the monotony also fractures, when one realises the essential context that she refers to persistently. The refracted cigarette butts are peculiar symbols in her works, which according to WJT Mitchell’s terminology could be stated as "hypericon"! Are these cigarettes claiming several meanings for many concerns of the present material world? Possibly, the refraction implies the dented view that changes with each individual and identity!

Ahn Sung Ha has participated in several group exhibitions and showed her works in many reputed museums. Projecting early fame in her art career, she has also shown her artworks at the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Kwacha, Korea Young Artists Biennale at Daegu Arts Centre, Vasby Art Hall as one of the participating members of Korean women artists in Sweden and Seoul Young Artists Biennale at Seoul Museum of Art.

Ahn Sung Ha is a recipient of several notable awards, which include  Nationwide University Fine Arts Festival Bronze Statue, the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea Special Prize from the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Dong-A-Fine Arts Festival Special Prize from the National Museum of Contemporary Art and the Joong-Ang Fine Arts competition Excellent Statue from Ho-am Gallery.
