Inspired by the works of Akinola Ebenezer, he was trained under him during his formative period.
Damola’s artistic representations show an influence from the African masters as well as European modern art. His impressions particularly portray black figures from his surroundings. Moreover, they are composed of low-key to lighter tonal hues. The paintings ideate a feeling of lush landscape sneaking through the narrative of routine. Superimposed with various techniques, styles, and objects, the paintings portray the dilemma of culture and socio-politics. Predominantly portraying female figures, the portrayals and visual representation delve beyond the mere figures and colours. They augment dialogue among the community.
A celebrated African artist, Damola’s portraits and figurative schemes indulge in the expressionist ideology, wherein the shades are emotional and charged with a retelling of past stories. More importantly, the figures look back at the viewers, initiating the concept of gaze and constant revelation.
