Ade Riyanto is an Asian-modern contemporary artist born 1972 in Indramayu, Indonesia. Riyanto’s work is heavily inspired by the 1990s era. The artistic style was defined by an artists’ collective called the YBAs or the Young British Artists. They were favoured by collector Charles Saatchi and associated with the Goldsmiths and the Royal College of Art, London.
Riyanto has a vivid palette and a mosaic-style theme that mostly identify with his body of works. The sensationalism of material and message glimmers in his practice. The comic book culture is slightly incorporated in his work alongside trends of graphic design and advertisement. Riyanto’s acrylic on canvas expressions gained extreme popularity, which developed a new form to painterly ideologies. Bright colours and encrypted messages are a common sight in Riyanto’s depictions as he displays the influence from growing up in West Java. His creative process is often displayed in his house which he has turned into a studio and a centre for his exhibitions.
Ade Riyanto has been the recipient of several awards on account of his creativity. These include the Sampoerna Hijau display product, the display product of Bimoli, and Coca-Cola, among others. He also served as the chairman of the Art Council of Indramayu. Besides, his work has been displayed in multiple group exhibitions including “Spintuart” and “Islamic Art”.
