    Abel Cuerda

    Born in Albacete in 1943, Abel Cuerda is a prominent Spanish artist who graduated in Fine Arts from the San Fernando School in Madrid in 1967. He served as an Associate Professor at the Complutense University and at the Felipe II University of Aranjuez until his retirement.

    Cuerda has held over forty individual exhibitions in galleries and art spaces across Spain, including Madrid, Bilbao, Zaragoza, and Seville, since his first solo show at the Macarrón Gallery in Madrid in 1971. His participation in collective exhibitions spans significant events like the Sports Biennials in Fine Arts and the Castilla-La Mancha Pavilion at the 1992 Universal Exposition in Seville. He has also showcased his work internationally, including exhibitions in Brussels, Sao Paulo, and Havana.

    Cuerda's artistic achievements are recognized through numerous awards, such as the First Prize and Gold Medal at the 2nd Bilbao Painting Biennial in 1970, and the Medal of Honor at the 2nd BMW Painting Prize in 1987. He was honored as Distinguished Artist of the Year by the Cultural Association of Albacete in 2007.

    His works are held in prestigious collections, including the Museums of Albacete and Jaén, the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and various Spanish governmental and financial institutions.
