    A. Selvaraj

Born in Gudiyattam, Tamil Nadu, A. Selvaraj was initially set on a path to become an engineer. However, his passion for classical Indian dance led him to discover a profound love for the visual arts, including painting. Secretly abandoning his engineering studies, Selvaraj dedicated himself to drawing and painting. His art, deeply influenced by the fluidity and expressiveness of dance, flows onto the canvas like a stream of moving water, bursting into vibrant waterfalls of colour and life.

In 1966, Selvaraj became a life member of the internationally renowned Cholamandal Artists' Village in Chennai. He is also a recipient of The Progressive Painters Association Award, one of India's oldest and most prestigious art organizations. Unlike many artists who have a casual interest in dance, Selvaraj's creations reflect a deep understanding and integration of dance philosophy and practice. Often described as a 'performer-creator,' he masterfully applies paint with a fluidity that mirrors the dynamic movement of dance, creating artworks that are both energetic and vividly colourful.
