Rahim Mirza

Rahim Mirza is an Indian contemporary artist whose practice explores the expressive and symbolic possibilities of natural forms. Trained in printmaking at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, he has developed a body of work primarily comprising acrylic paintings on canvas. His compositions are distinguished by a sustained engagement with the leaf, a deceptively simple motif through which he examines the cycles of nature, the passage of time, and the changing registers of human emotion.

For Mirza, the leaf carries multiple associations, from the promise of renewal embodied by the first growth of spring to the transience suggested by the falling foliage of autumn. By isolating the leaf from its natural setting, he removes it from its familiar context and invites viewers to consider its form, colour, and repetition anew. Arranged across the picture surface, individual leaves create rhythmic patterns that acquire meaning through their relationships to one another. This approach transforms an everyday element of the natural world into a vehicle for abstraction and contemplation.

Mirza held his first solo exhibition at Crimson Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2000, followed by exhibitions in Ahmedabad and elsewhere. His work has been shown at institutions including the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, and he participated in the Tokyo International Print Triennial in 1998. His achievements have been recognised with the Madhya Pradesh State Award in 1997 and the Raza Foundation Award in 2005.

Size: 24 H x 24 W inches
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Movement: Abstract, Expressionism, Contemporary
Country: India

Size: 21 H x 21 W inches
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Movement: Abstract, Expressionism, Contemporary
Country: India

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0572/2341/3939/collections/2694-image_794e0abc-8fdf-42e7-bf4b-60b7f193c133.png?v=1792864031
