Isha Mohammed

Isha Mahammad (b 1933) procured his Diploma in painting and drawing (life, nature and murals) from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata in the year 1958.
 
Specialising in abstract and semi-abstract patterns and figures on canvas, Isha has grown as an artist. He started his artistic career with ideas drawn from Parisian art. He moved towards European modernism influenced by his travels across Germany, London and Paris. Later he changed his style and technique yet again to create life-like images of the chosen subject in a surreal and realistic environment.
 
He has held numerous well received exhibitions in India and abroad at venues such as the Indo-American Society, Kolkata (1964); Allaince Francaise, Kolkata (1969); Bedford Hill Gallery, Bedford, London (1987); Genesis Art Gallery Kolkata (1990); Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi (1992); Jehangir Art Gallery Mumbai (1994); Taj Art Gallery Mumbai (1997).
 
On account of his continued role as an evolving artist, he has been bestowed with much recognition including the Award in the realm of Graphic Art, Kolkata University (1956) and an Award in Painting, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata (1972)
 
Presently, his works can be seen at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; Museum Fur Indische Kinst, Delhem, Berlin, West Germany; Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata State Academy of Art, Manipur Delhi Art Gallery, New Delhi. His paintings also enjoy pride of place in private collections in USA, Canada, France, Yugoslavia, West Germany, U.A.E. and India.
